About the trail
An easy 6km trail winding through Kāpiti’s stunning dunelands, Te Ara o Whareroa is popular with walkers and cyclists alike. Stretching from Popluar Ave in Raumati South to Tilley Road in Paekākāriki, this mostly flat, wide, sealed path makes for a relaxing outdoor experience, perfect for all ages and fitness levels. It’s also accessible for buggies and wheelchairs.
For cyclists, it’s a great ride for the whole family - especially for those easing into biking or getting back into the saddle.

Stop for a refreshing swim or simply soak in the stunning ocean views at Whareroa Beach.
About 1km from Paekākāriki, keep an eye out for the 1km marker post - home to the wētā motel boxes. Gently open them to discover what fascinating insects might be hiding inside!

Getting there and know before you go

There are multiple access points to Te Ara o Whareroa:

At the northern end, use the marked road crossing on Poplar Ave in Raumati South to reach to the trail entrance. On-street parking is available on Matai Road.
- At the southern end, a large car park is located at the end of Tilley Road, Paekākāriki
- For those looking to join the trail midway, Whareroa Beach at the end of Whareroa Road provides another convenient access point.

- Whareroa Beach Reserve has toilets, but they are not accessible.
- Shared trail, watch out for other users on bikes.
- Dogs are welcome but must remain on lead.
