A picturesque trail that follows an old bush tramway through lush native forest to low hill country east of Waikanae.
Trail Info
About the trail
Originally known as Reikorangi Track, the Mangaone Walkway offers a stunning walk through lush native forest, eventually opening up into a wide-open meadow.
Starting from the southern entrance, you'll cross a swing bridge and navigate small steams as the path weaves through the scenic Kaitawa Reserve. It then opens into meadows with colourful flowers in spring and plenty of great picnic spots.
Please note: The northern section of the track is currently closed, so walkers are advised to reach the halfway point and return.
The track is narrow and includes tree roots and trip hazards. Some sections can be wet and muddy, so plan ahead and wear appropriate footwear.
