About the trail
The Coast 35 is a 35-kilometre off-road shared trail on the Kāpiti Coast, stretching from Paekākāriki to Ōtaki. It’s designed for walkers, runners, cyclists, and horse riders, making it a versatile and scenic option for outdoor enthusiasts.
The trail runs parallel to the Kāpiti Expressway, featuring a mix of compact gravel and smooth pathways suitable for most bikes, including road bikes.

An opportunity to enjoy the natural scenery you will experience dunes, wetlands, and stunning views of the coastline. Enjoy unique features along the trail including bridges, underpasses, sculptures and even tunnels adorned with murals.

Getting there and know before you go
- The trail includes entry points with parking and is well-connected to other local trails like the Waikanae and Ōtaki River Trails.
- Shared trail, watch out for other users on bikes or horseback.
- Dogs are welcome but must remain on lead.
- Along the trail, road crossings are either controlled or have buttons to activate cycle warning signs.
- Bike pump and tool stations available at Te Moana Road, Waikanae, and on Poplar Ave in Raumati South.
- Sealed south from Peka Peka. Gravel from Peka Peka to Ōtaki.
