Paekākāriki Beach

Paekākāriki Beach offers a laid-back coastal vibe, drawing swimmers, surfers, and bodyboarders alike. The beach also boasts some great fishing spots for those looking to cast a line.

Safe swimming is available at the north end of The Parade, where the Paekākāriki Surf Lifeguards patrol during the summer months. Nearby, you'll find the entrance to Queen Elizabeth Park and the Paekākāriki Holiday Park, ideal for a camping getaway.

After enjoying the waves, soak up the chilled-out vibes of the colourful seaside village and refuel at local favourites like Beach Road Deli, Olde Beach Bakery, or the Perching Parrot.

Raumati Beach

Raumati Beach is a delightful destination perfect for families and seaside fun. With its inviting waters, it's an ideal location for swimming, kayaking, and leisurely strolls along the shore.

The kids will love the beachside park, Marine Gardens and splash pad - where they can play and splash to their hearts’ content. Set amidst a picturesque park with BBQs and picnic tables, it’s the ideal spot for a family day out.

After some beach fun, treat yourself to fish and chips or gelato from the nearby village, or enjoy a meal with a view at the Waterfront Bar. Located right at the beach, it offers stunning views overlooking the beach and Kapiti Island.

Sheltered by Kapiti Island, Paraparaumu Beach is ideal for families with safe-swimming, family-friendly facilities and easy access.

Walk, scoot or skate along the paved beachside path, or let the kids loose at neighbouring Maclean Park, home to a marine-themed playground and skatepark with plenty of grassy spaces to picnic.

For those looking to enjoy a day out on the water, the Kāpiti Boating Club offers launching areas for boaties as well as the launch point for trips to Kapiti Island.

Beyond the beach you’ll find an array of eateries and boutique shops nearby to explore, as well as the weekly Saturday market to stock up on fresh produce and gourmet treats.

Waikanae Beach

A popular weekend destination for Wellingtonians, Waikanae Beach is a great spot for swimming, fishing, kayaking, kite surfing and sand sailing.

Explore the Waikanae Estuary, at the southern end, a nationally significant habitat home to over 60 species of birds and a variety of freshwater and marine fish. 

When it's time to refuel, grab a delicious treat from hidden gem, Olde Beach Bakery then relax and soak in the beachside atmosphere at popular local hangouts, Long Beach Tavern and Hey Coastie.

Te Horo Beach

Te Horo Beach is a tranquil and secluded beach located just south of Ōtaki. Tucked away off the beaten track, it's a favourite among dog walkers and horse riders, offering a serene escape from the crowds. With its rugged, windswept beauty, it provides an unspoilt beach experience for those seeking peace and quiet.

Delightful hidden gem, The Bus Stop Cafe is a must-visit for a post-beach refreshment, and for the ultimate secluded getaway, book a stay at nearby Te Hāpua Glamping, where you can fully immerse yourself in nature's tranquility.

Ōtaki Beach

Whether you’re a sunseeker, surfer or surf caster, Ōtaki Beach has it all. Located at the northern tip of the Kāpiti Coast, Ōtaki Beach is home to the Ōtaki Surf Lifesaving Club who patrol the beach during the summer months. Known for its variety of swells it’s also a popular spot for surfers, with Wellington Surf Lessons offering lessons during the summer season.

Anglers will find excellent fishing opportunities at the southern end by the rivermouth, so don't forget to bring your rod and reel.

Home to the annual Ōtaki Kite festival - this much-loved event sees the beach come alive with colourful kites, market stalls and entertainment in March.
